       Artist Statement

Catalina Auguste is a Toronto-based animator and illustrator known for her innovative approach to experimental animation and digital illustration. Currently in her third year of the Fine Arts program at OCAD University in Toronto, where she is majoring in Experimental Animation, Catalina’s work blends a passion for storytelling with a deep exploration of new media and animation techniques. Her unique style is bubbly, bright, and carefree as she often explores themes of experimentation and person experience, drawing her practice towards an open-minded and equally carefree audience.

 

Throughout her academic journey, Catalina has been an active participant in the vibrant creative community at OCAD, collaborating with fellow students on animation jams and workshops. These experiences have allowed her to hone her skills in both traditional and experimental animation, pushing the boundaries of visual storytelling and bringing her unique artistic vision to life. In addition to her academic pursuits, Catalina has worked on a wide range of professional projects, creating illustrations for corporate clients as well as independent commissions. She has also developed a strong portfolio of website illustrations for private clients, demonstrating her versatility in adapting her style to different creative needs.

 

Catalina’s work has been showcased at numerous art and craft markets across Toronto, Etobicoke, and Mississauga, Ontario, where she has connected with a diverse audience and gained recognition for her distinctive artistic style. A highlight of her career thus far has been her involvement in a pitch for a film project with DreamWorks, where her illustrations played a key role in visualizing the creative direction for the project. 

 

As she prepares to graduate from OCAD University in 2026, Catalina is looking forward to expanding her career in the animation industry. After graduation, she plans to apply to intern at local animation studios such as: House of Cool in Toronto or Blue Spirit in Montreal to gain hands-on experience in the professional world while continuing her education in 2D and 3D animation at either Sheridan Collage or the University of British Columbia (UBC). With a passion for both the artistic and technical aspects of animation, Catalina is excited to contribute her creativity and skills to the ever-evolving world of animation and digital art.
